Departures

Being one of the busiest airports of the country makes McCarran International airport subject to tedious security procedures outlined and adhered to by the TSA. These procedures involve mostly all the traditional practices followed by major domestic or international airports, and passengers are strictly required to review the terms beforehand and closely adhere to the rules.

TSA Security

TSA recommends passengers to be at their respective departures terminals at least two hours before their domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Passengers are asked to remove all metal-made belongings or electronic devices from their carry-on bags and place them in a special bin to undergo security scanning while they go through a metal detector body scanner. Depending on the decision of TSA officers, passengers might be asked to remove their shoes or might be pat-down for additional screening.

Passengers are encouraged to carefully review the terms and conditions of their airlines and rules regarding the prohibited items on board, as they might differ according to various airline operators.

McCarran airport advises passengers to prepare to turn on their electronic devices, including laptops or cellular phones, when requested at security checkpoints. Security personnel is authorized to manually check passengers’ checked-in or carry-on luggage if they deem necessary.

Legal Identification

All passengers, traveling domestic or international flights, are legally required to present valid identification. For domestic flights, a driver’s license or state-issued ID card might be enough, valid most of the international flights will require passengers to carry a valid passport at security checkpoints, ticket counters, or boarding gates. Make sure to carry your ID with you at all times and keep it close.

Security checkpoints

Departure Terminals

McCarran International Airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 serving and operating domestic flights, and Terminal 3, designated for international flights. A,B, C, and D gate departure areas are located in Terminal 1, while Terminal 3 covers D and E boarding areas. Remember that McCarran’s two terminals are not connected, so passengers are advised to carefully check their terminals before the flight to avoid the necessity of using the shuttle bus to move from between terminals.

Departing areas are easily accessible by walking or moving walkways after passing through the relevant security checkpoints.

Departure Time

Departures times are determined by the airlines, but due to a few factors, namely, weather, or any unexpected event, they might change. Passengers are advised to monitor changes closely, by following up at the ticket counter or the company’s websites. Additionally, these changes in time can be traced on McCarran Airport’s user-friendly website, which gives you the opportunity to search flights by the number, company, city, or other keywords.
